Importance and correct use of heading tags (H2, H1, and…)

When writing a new article, you can use the title tags H2, H1, etc. to place different headlines. Together, these headlines will form a general structure for your article and help the audience find the parts they are looking for more easily. In addition, search engines can easily identify the topic of your content and direct more users to it.




The difference between the headlines as SEO (or the difference between the H heading tags with meta title!)


Well, first of all, let’s specify what role they exactly have on the page and where they are displayed. The heading of the page is the headline that is displayed inside your text and is visible to the user and the search engine. In the html code of a site, the heading is found using the h tags (which means the main title <h1>, the second title <h2>, etc.). We use the word headline in our content as an equivalent to a heading.


But the title is the name you have chosen for your page and it will not be displayed in the text to the user. This title in HTML is known as a meta-title and is marked with the <title> tag. To see the title of a page, just look at its name in your browser tab. The equivalent we have used for this word in our content is the page title. You should also know that the page title is a phrase that will be displayed as your main headline when the user searches in the Google search engine.


Why is content tagging with H tags important?


If you do not have the right headlines for your article, it will be difficult for both the user and the search engines to read. It is as if you wrote your article in another language.

Headline tags are not a new feature in the online world and nothing has changed about them in the last seven or eight years. Therefore, the proper use of them has not changed, and of course, they are important to this day.



Creating a logical and appropriate structure with heading tags (h3, h2, h1, etc.)


You should use only one H1 tag for each page and specify the main title of the article using the H1 Tag. For example, the main headline of the article you are reading is “Text Heading: The Importance and Proper Use of Heading Tags (h2, h1, etc.)”. Note that your site name should not be included in this headline (except on the main page) and the subject of the page should be specified.


Let’s consider an online store. In this store, some pages display products according to categories, and some pages provide information about a specific product to the audience. You should not have the title of the category on the main title page of your headline and the name of the product on the product page.


After the main headline, we go to the H2 tag and use it for the subtitles of our article. With the help of this tag, you can specify the important parts of your content and thus make your content more readable for the audience and of course Google.


Finally, there are the H3 tags, which are the subheadings of the H2 titles. Though, sometimes it’s not bad to use the H3 tag instead of the H2 tag. when you think that a part of the story does not provide much important information to the audience and does not need to be emphasized much.



A common mistake when using headline tags


What most people have a problem with is when people use headline tags to make different parts of their website look better or emphasize a topic. For example, a Callback (“Call this number …”) is placed on the website using the H1 or H2 tag to get more attention.


This is a big design mistake. Instead, you should create a new class for the text you’re after. Because the tags H1, H2, etc. are detected by search engines. This issue is even mentioned in Google’s guide for beginners in SEO. Of course, sometimes we see people creating a whole paragraph with the H2 or H3 tags, which is very common. Something that can seriously damage your SEO.



Have you ever used any of the H4, H5, and H6 tags?


It’s good to know that using the H4 tag, when your text is more than 1000 words, is a good thing and adds a new layer to the page structure. This tag can also be used for headlines of little value that do not include your keyword. But the other two tags are not useful. So do not pay too much attention to them. They may have been used in the early days of the Internet, but now few people use them.



The effect of headlines on the SEO of your website 

Finally, you may have been wondering: What is the benefit of using headlines for my website’s SEO? Evidence shows that this is less effective than before, but headlines still help Google identify key topics in longer content and, of course, identify your article as a useful source for readers.

Without a doubt, there are better ways to build good SEO and you don’t necessarily need a good content structure for SEO. But this won’t take much time, can have a small effect on your SEO, and ultimately, and most importantly, make it easier for users to read your content.
